Do you find yourself not absorbing your attacker’s force during ikkyo? In an effort to not get overtaken, maybe you keep them too far outside of your sphere?

In today’s video, I’m going to share a couple clips from a seminar I did back in 2017 in Los Angeles. In these clips, I use shoto or short sword a lot. Using shoto will help you find the right amount of absorption of an attack.

I also explore shifting the weight BACK, while keeping focus forward. This also helps absorb an attack and done well, can really lighten your partner.

Let’s check it out.
