Teacher Training: Lead By Example

Have you ever had a really tough day, you’re totally fried, frankly, you don’t feel like going to the dojo (and you’re the instructor), but you go to the dojo, you jump over hurdles, and no one shows up.

First of all, please know that you’re not alone. This happens to lots of instructors.

Secondly, kudos to you for showing up. This is just one example of how to lead by example. You want your students to show up. So it starts with you.

In today’s video, I’m going to talk about one of my 3 Golden Rules of Teaching Aikido, which is to Lead By Example. I think it’s the most important rule of being a teacher AND the most difficult.

Learning to lead by example will make your job easier in the long run. It’ll help you gain confidence as a teacher and reduce stress, WITHOUT having to compromise your values or sacrifice your own training.
