Martial Arts Teacher Training: Get Over Yourself to foster a dojo culture of mutual respect
Have you ever been frustrated (or maybe even insulted) with how your students treat you? Do you think they’re not very respectful?
First of all, you’re not alone. A lot of instructors feel this way.
Secondly, you’re not going to like what I have to say on this topic. I’ll use the words of one of my colleagues when we were being interviewed. They asked him what his advice was for new instructors and he immediately answered: “Get over yourself!”
In today’s video, I’m going to talk about one of my 3 Golden Rules of Teaching Aikido, which I call “Get over yourself!”
Getting over yourself is so important for growing and nurturing your dojo community. In the long run, it’ll even help to establish a community of mutual respect, compassion, and empathy. It’s up to you to set the example.
